Third anniversary of Abdul Majeed Shoman passing away

Today, Saturday, the third anniversary of the passing away of the late Abdul Majeed Shoman is marked. The late Shoman who left this world on July 5, 2005 after a life full of achievements, leaving his mark as one of the key founders of the banking industry in the country and the region.
The late Shoman was born in Beit Hanina in 1912, completed his high school in the United States and obtained his bachelor and Masters degrees in banking from New York University to join Arab Bank after graduation.
Award-winning Shoman was highly decorated. He was awarded Al Istiqlal Medal, First Order, Al Kawkab Medal, Al Hussein Decoration for Distinguished Contribution of the First Order and French National Order of Merit, Commander grade. He was also elected Banker of the Year by Union of Arab Banks in Beirut in 1995 and "Arab Banker" by Arab Bankers Association of North America in 1996. Shoman earned the title "Chief Banker," which was bestowed by consensus among Arab and international banking institutions.
The late Shoman was appointed a Senator for four sessions.
Abdul Majeed Shoman worked to build giant banking network extending over five continents and contributed to building and developing the banking and economic sectors through supporting socio-economic, social, scientific and industrial projects. He instilled in his children the spirit of diligence and the willingness to serve and develop the economy. He led Arab Bank throughout decades of service to further successes and distinction.
The Shoman family has made history by establishing Arab Bank, which evolved into a school of banking with acclaimed achievements that included advanced banking products and services, active participation in financing mega development projects and effective presence in Arab and international financial markets.
